Indian pipes, or ghost flower, Monotropa uniflora

"Here is another common plant in the forest, Indian pipes, or ghost flower, Monotropa uniflora.   This flower has no chlorophyll.   It must get energy some way.   This plant is associated with tree roots and fungi.   The many associations in the forest are awesome and wonderful.   My fear is we may learn about some of them after it is too late."  Shigo, A New Tree Biology Page 204
