Resin Ducts - Resin ducts are enlarged parenchyma cells. The ducts may form from radial parenchyma; but most ducts form from axial parenchyma. Normal-sized axial parenchyma cells surround the duct. Ducts are more common in the latewood. Some trees such as true firs (Abies) have ducts in bark but none in wood. Spruce has very few ducts. Some conifers produce many ducts after injury. These ducts are called traumatic resin ducts. (MA pg 52)
